John Faison graduated from UVA and received master’s degrees from Fordham University and Hunter College. He was a Social worker supervisor in New York City where he focused primarily with children at risk. John and his wife Marilyn “Mazza” were New Yorkers who became long term summer residents of Peaks Island. They preserved and lovingly cared for the historic properties which will now serve as the Faison Artist Residency for Illustration Institute. John has been a catalyst for the residency program that honors Marilyn’s artistic legacy and their love of Peaks Island.

“Since Marilyn’s passing it has been my dream to create a retreat where artists can work and enjoy the special qualities of life on Peaks Island.The enthusiasm of the artists staying at the Residence and the wonderful support of the community has made me proud of the work the Illustration Institute has accomplished over the past several years. This is why I am excited to be on the board of II.”
