Henrik Drescher:
Henrik Drescher is a Copenhagen-born illustrator. He takes inspiration from his travels and life, collecting visuals and ideas in sketchbooks he brings with him. Much of his work “grows out of them,” he says. He moved to New York in 1982 and published his first book a year later, followed by 50 more since. His work regularly appears in major publications in the US and Canada, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, Newsweek, Time, and Rolling Stone.
His one-of-a-kind and limited edition books and paintings are exhibited and sold in galleries, and housed in collections of major museums around the globe. In 1992 Drescher was awarded a solo exhibition by the United States Library of Congress; elsewhere, he has done solo shows in the US, New Zealand, and Canada.
Currently his work focuses on painting and book arts, with particular inspiration drawn from Chinese landscape painting (Shan Shui). His book project, China Days—A Visual Journal from China’s Wild West, investigates the decade he spent in China.
